P00xx fault codes: Fuel and air metering, auxiliary emission controls

This family covers the measurement of incoming air and injected fuel, together with the emission devices attached to them. A fault here distorts the mixture the engine burns, which costs fuel and raises emissions.

How to read this code

The letter P names the system: Powertrain. The next digit, 0, locates the fault: fuel and air metering, auxiliary emission controls.

These codes are generic: they mean the same thing on every make. Some manufacturer tools display them with a two-digit suffix, such as P0101-00 or P010100: the suffix refines the fault type, and the base code keeps its meaning.
