Type of fault

The control unit reads a voltage on this circuit above its expected range. Usual causes: a broken wire or a poor ground, a short to a supply voltage, or the component itself. As with a low signal, check the wiring and connector before the part.

Fuel pressure regulation

On direct-injection petrol and common-rail diesel engines, a high-pressure pump feeds the injectors through a rail. The control unit regulates the pressure with a valve on the pump (volume or metering regulator) and/or a valve on the rail, and checks the result with the rail pressure sensor.

What you notice

Hard starting, loss of power, jerks, limp mode; the engine may stall if the pressure falls too low.

How to check it

Before blaming the high-pressure side, check the low-pressure supply: a clogged fuel filter, a weak in-tank pump or air in the diesel line cause many of these codes.
