Cylinder 6 Misfire Detected

What this code means

Cylinder 6 is not burning the air-fuel mixture properly. Likely causes: worn spark plug, faulty coil or clogged injector.

This is the most serious family of the set. A misfire sends unburnt fuel into the exhaust, where it destroys the catalytic converter within a few dozen kilometres. A flashing warning light means a misfire is happening now: stop driving.

How to read this code

  • PPowertrain
  • 0standardised code
  • 3Ignition and misfire
  • 06P0306

The letter P names the system: Powertrain. The digit 0 that follows marks a standardised code, shared by all manufacturers code. The next digit, 3, locates the fault: ignition and misfire.

What to do

Have it checked promptly. A misfire sends unburnt fuel into the exhaust and destroys the catalytic converter within a few dozen kilometres. If the light is flashing, stop driving.

Clearing a code switches the light off but repairs nothing: if the fault remains, the code comes back.
